CompactLogix 5380 & ControlLogix 5580 PLCs

The Allen-Bradley CompactLogix 5380 (5069-L3 series, up to 4 million I/O points over EtherNet/IP) is the scalable compact PAC for mid-size machine and process control — combining PLC logic, motion control and safety in a single controller programmed via Studio 5000 Logix Designer. The 5380 CPU supports up to 256 MB user programme memory, dual Ethernet ports (Device Level Ring topology) and integrated motion over EtherNet/IP for Kinetix 5500/5700 servo drives — eliminating the dedicated motion network required by earlier Logix platforms. The CompactLogix 5480 extends the compact platform to process control applications with real-time Windows co-processor capability — running SCADA and advanced control software alongside the Logix programme on the same hardware. The Allen-Bradley ControlLogix 5580 (1756-L8 series) targets large-scale manufacturing, process and infrastructure automation requiring multiple controller connections, inter-controller messaging and high-speed data acquisition — with 100 MB/s controller-to-controller EtherNet/IP messaging for tightly coordinated production systems. All Logix controllers are programmed in Studio 5000 Logix Designer (IEC 61131-3 structured text, function block diagram, ladder diagram and sequential function chart) — a single software environment that eliminates separate tools for PLC, motion and safety programming.

PowerFlex 525 & 755 AC Variable Speed Drives

The Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 525 (0.4–22 kW, 100–600V) is the standard compact AC drive for machine-level speed control — featuring embedded EtherNet/IP with DLR (Device Level Ring) topology, safe torque off (STO) as standard and an AppView/CustomView front panel for parameter grouping by application type. The EtherNet/IP connection enables Add-On Profile (AOP) automatic parameter import into Studio 5000 — allowing the drive to be set up from the PLC project file without manual parameter entry, dramatically reducing commissioning time on multi-drive machine panels. The PowerFlex 755 (0.75 kW–1.85 MW, 380–690V) is the advanced industrial drive for demanding applications — covering induction and PM motor control with Induction Sensorless Vector, Closed Loop Vector and PM motor control modes in a single drive platform. The PowerFlex 755TL regenerative bus supply and 755TR common bus configuration enable energy sharing between multiple drives on a common DC bus — returning braking energy from decelerating axes to accelerating axes, providing up to 30% energy saving in multi-drive packaging and material handling applications. The PowerFlex 755 integrates directly with Kinetix servo drives on a common DC bus via Integrated Motion on EtherNet/IP — enabling regenerative energy sharing between servo axes and AC drives in the same machine.

PanelView 5000 & PanelView Plus 7 HMI Panels

The Allen-Bradley PanelView 5000 (6–19" widescreen, multi-touch, Windows IoT Enterprise) is the current-generation HMI for Logix-based automation systems — supporting ISA-101 compliant graphical displays, OEE production monitoring, alarm management, trending and PDF embedded documentation via the FactoryTalk View Machine Edition (ME) runtime. The PanelView 5000 connects to CompactLogix and ControlLogix controllers via EtherNet/IP with automatic tag import from Studio 5000 — eliminating manual HMI tag database creation that was required on earlier PanelView generations. The PanelView Plus 7 (4–15" widescreen, resistive and multi-touch) provides the established HMI platform for machine integration — widely installed across European manufacturing and available for direct replacement in existing PanelView Plus 6 panel cutouts. The FactoryTalk View Studio software develops HMI applications for both PanelView 5000 and PanelView Plus 7 from a single project — protecting engineering investment across HMI hardware generations.

Kinetix 5700 & 5500 Servo Systems — Integrated Motion

The Allen-Bradley Kinetix 5700 servo drive system (2198-Sxxx, 1–600A, 400/480V) provides multi-axis servo control over a single EtherNet/IP cable connection from a CompactLogix or ControlLogix controller — eliminating the dedicated SERCOS or analogue encoder wiring required by previous Kinetix generations. Up to 16 Kinetix 5700 axes share a common DC bus in a single drive chassis — enabling inter-axis regenerative energy sharing and reducing wiring to a single mains supply connection for the complete multi-axis drive system. The Kinetix 5700 covers rotary servo motors (TLP, VPL, VPC series), linear servo actuators and direct-drive torque motors for the complete range of machine tool, packaging and assembly positioning requirements. The Kinetix 5500 (2198-Hxxx, 0.5–11 kW, single-axis) provides a compact standalone servo solution for single-axis and low-axis-count machines where a multi-axis Kinetix 5700 system exceeds the application requirement. All Kinetix servo axes are configured in Studio 5000 using the same Axis Properties dialog as the PLC programme — providing a unified motion commissioning environment without a separate servo drive tool.

GuardLogix & Compact GuardLogix Safety Controllers

The Allen-Bradley GuardLogix 5580 safety controller and Compact GuardLogix 5380 integrate SIL 2/PLd safety functions with standard Logix control in a single controller — eliminating the separate safety PLC, safety relay panel and safety network required by systems using separate standard and safety PLCs. Safety I/O (1791DS, 1734 POINT Guard I/O modules), safety servo drives (Kinetix 5700 with STO/SS1/SS2/SLS/SBC safety functions via Safe Speed Monitor) and safety light curtains all connect over the standard EtherNet/IP network — providing a single-network safety architecture that simplifies panel wiring and reduces the commissioning time for EN ISO 13849-1 PLe safety systems. The GuardLogix safety programme is developed in Studio 5000 Logix Designer alongside the standard control programme — both in the same project file with the safety programme protected by a separate safety-task password from the standard control programme for regulatory compliance.

FactoryTalk Platform & IIoT Integration

The Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk platform extends Allen-Bradley hardware into the IIoT and digital manufacturing environment. FactoryTalk View SE provides plant-wide SCADA visualisation for multi-machine and multi-site production monitoring. FactoryTalk Analytics applies machine learning and statistical analysis to production data — detecting equipment degradation patterns before failure occurs. FactoryTalk Optix (cloud-native, HTML5) replaces traditional SCADA client-server architecture with a browser-based HMI accessible from any device without local software installation. The Stratix 5700 managed industrial Ethernet switch provides the Device Level Ring (DLR) network infrastructure for EtherNet/IP-connected Allen-Bradley devices — with IGMP snooping, QoS and CIP-awareness for deterministic EtherNet/IP communication in production-critical automation networks.
