The 3M Scotch Super 33+ (7 mil / 0.178 mm, IEC 60454-3-1-7/F-PVCP/90, VDE Mark cert. 130462) is the global professional-grade vinyl electrical insulation tape for LV splicing, terminations and general cable insulation up to 600V rated conductors. The pressure-sensitive rubber-resin adhesive and elastic PVC backing provide high conformability over irregular conductor shapes, maintaining a tight moisture-resistant seal through temperature cycles from -18°C to +105°C. UV resistance, flame retardancy and resistance to abrasion, moisture, alkalis and acids make Super 33+ suitable for both indoor panel wiring and outdoor exposed cable repairs. The 3M Scotch Super 88 (8.5 mil / 0.216 mm thick) provides heavier construction for faster insulation build-up with fewer wraps — targeting motor lead insulation, cable jacketing and mechanical protection applications where the additional thickness of Super 88 versus Super 33+ delivers measurable installation time reduction. Both tapes are UL 510 Listed, CSA C22.2 No. 197 certified and RoHS 2011/65/EU compliant for European panel and cable installation. The 3M Scotch 22 (0.254 mm, rated continuous to 80°C) provides an economy PVC alternative for standard low-voltage cable colour coding and cable bundling applications.
The 3M Scotch 23 Self-Amalgamating Rubber Splicing Tape is the industry standard insulating tape for medium-voltage cable splicing, insulation repair and high-voltage termination build-up applications from 5 kV to 69 kV. Scotch 23 is an ethylene-propylene (EPR) rubber tape that bonds to itself without adhesive when applied under tension with 75% overlap — creating a seamless, void-free, moisture-resistant insulation layer indistinguishable from the original cable insulation after cure. The tape has a dielectric strength of 28 kV/mm, a volume resistivity of 3×10¹⁴ Ω·cm and operates continuously at conductor temperatures up to 90°C — matching the XLPE and EPR cable insulation ratings it is used to repair or supplement. Scotch 23 is specified as the primary insulation tape in 3M Scotchcast and cold shrink cable joint kits for 6.6 kV, 11 kV and 33 kV joints. The 3M Scotch 130C Linerless Rubber Splicing Tape (self-amalgamating, 30 mil thick, 0–105°C) provides an all-weather, cold-weather flexible alternative to Scotch 23 for LV motor lead splicing, bus bar insulation and cable jacket repair applications where the thicker single-layer build-up of 130C reduces wrap count compared to standard splicing tapes.
3M Scotchcast resin cable joint kits provide encapsulated, waterproof underground and below-grade cable joints for LV direct-burial, in-duct and underwater cable connections. The Scotchcast 90 and Scotchcast 2131 kits use a two-part polyurethane resin (Mix & Pour system) that cures in place around the joint connector — filling all voids and creating a permanent, IP68-rated encapsulation that prevents water ingress to the connection for the service life of the cable. 3M Cold Shrink technology provides factory-moulded silicone rubber cable joints and terminations that shrink onto the prepared cable by removing an internal core former — without heat guns, flame torches or open flame on site. Cold shrink joints and terminations eliminate the open flame fire risk associated with heat shrink installation in confined spaces, tunnels, cable trenches and explosive atmospheres. 3M QS1000 cold shrink joint kits (LV, 1.0/1.5 kV) cover inline and branch joints for 16–240 mm² power cables in outdoor and underground installations. 3M 5400 series cold shrink terminations (3.6/6 kV, 6/10 kV, 8.7/15 kV) cover indoor and outdoor single-core XLPE cable terminations at MV switchgear and transformer bushings — providing a pre-moulded stress cone, insulation and weather shed in a single factory-controlled component without the skill-dependent hand-building required by tape-and-mould termination methods. Cold shrink installation is faster, more consistent and produces lower warranty failure rates than equivalent tape-built or heat shrink methods in field conditions.
3M Scotchfil Electrical Insulation Putty (125 mil thick mastic tape) is applied as a dam around conductor exits and multi-core cable glands before resin pouring — preventing resin leakage and creating a void-free seal at the cable sheath entry point of resin cable joints. Scotchfil is also used to fill irregular surface profiles at cable joint compound entries and to build up under-diameter cables to the correct duct sealing diameter. The 3M Scotch 2230 mastic tape provides environmental sealing at cable entry glands, conduit fittings and panel knockouts where flexible, conformable sealing against moisture, dust and vermin ingress is required. 3M Scotchwrap corrosion protection tape (coal tar felt-backed, self-adhesive) provides buried pipe and cable sheath corrosion protection at mechanical joints, repair sections and transition points between factory-applied coating and field-applied protection on buried steel and cast iron infrastructure.
The 3M Scotch 27 Glass Cloth Tape (Class B, 130°C rated, silicone adhesive) provides electrical insulation and mechanical protection for motor and transformer windings, coil forms and bus bar connections at elevated operating temperatures that exceed the capability of standard PVC vinyl tapes. The woven fibreglass backing provides excellent mechanical strength, dimensional stability and resistance to cutting and abrasion in coil winding and motor repair applications. The 3M Scotch 69 Glass Cloth Tape (Class H, 180°C rated) covers the highest standard motor winding insulation class — used in rewinding traction motors, industrial drive motors and generator windings where Class H insulation system certification per IEC 60034-1 is specified. Both glass cloth tapes are suitable for impregnation with varnish in dipped winding processes and for bare application in slot liner and coil separator functions in motor winding production.
